Natural materials for reuse

At Lovia, we draw inspiration from nature and are constantly looking for new ways to use natural materials. One example of this is the use of straw as a detail on our bags.

We get the birch from Rakennusapteek, which has specialized in responsible construction for over 20 years. They use the skills of the past and develop materials and methods that aim for natural construction. One example of this is the birch used in our bags. Rakennusapteek carefully develops its products to make them high-quality and long-lasting. The same idea applies to Lovia bags. When bags are made from sustainable materials, they become long-term partners for their new owners, and there is no need to buy a new one right away.

Nature's own material

For centuries, birch bark has been used in Finland for various purposes, such as in clothing like leather or fabric. It is even called the plastic of the past due to its durability and versatility.

The birch used in Lovia bags comes from surplus wood from logging in Finland and is hand-selected for our bags. The birch is removed from felled birch trees, collected, dried and straightened for further use. We want to use as much existing material as possible to reduce the environmental impact. So, our designer Outi’s desk is creating new ways to utilize materials that have always been within reach. Or, in this case, it’s about bringing old traditions into the present day through design. And the end result is amazing, isn’t it?
