A masterpiece of Milanese craftsmanship

The surplus material used in Lovia bags is given a new form at the Clio factory near Milan, Italy, when a seven-person artisan team tackles the waste material. In addition to the factory founders Fulvio Galbiati, Jenny Boischio and Luisella Checuzi, the factory employs four people with decades of experience working with designer bags. Rather than a work community, Fulvio describes his team more as a family, where taking care of everyone is important. This doesn’t just mean practical things, such as protecting yourself from the substances used in production, but also maintaining a gentle atmosphere and humor within the group. In the homely atmosphere of the Clio factory, the surplus material gets a new life as unique bags and the journey of treasures to new homes can begin.

Small pieces create designer bags

Fulvio Galbiati, the founder of the Clio factory, is an important link in our production chain with over 30 years of experience in bag production and working with luxury brands. He started his craft career at the age of 15 as a cabinetmaker and is a third-generation artisan. The first samples of our bags are created in these skilled hands. Together with Fulvio, we develop our bag models further, including material choices and bag structures.

In addition to the founders, the Clio factory also produces bags from surplus material. Using small pieces of material is a challenge for production, and finding solutions is not always simple or easy. The Clio team has made it possible for us to use surplus material in our bags, as they have been involved in creating the production process from the beginning with an unyielding attitude.

We share the same values as the Clio team about responsible and transparent fashion. For them, transparency is not only an important value, but also a practical matter in the production of bags. "When you have worked in fashion for a long time, you learn to see through the materials. You learn to recognize whether the details are made with care and skill. The true quality of the bag is revealed beneath the surface," says Fulvio.

Greetings from the Seregno factory

We want to give our bag makers a voice. Here are some greetings and snippets from the team's daily life, as it happens at the factory in Seregno.

We do a lot of good, but we are not perfect.

We are already doing some great things with the Clio team and have developed a process together to utilize surplus leather pieces in our bags. However, when looking at production from an environmental perspective, there is always room for improvement.

We are constantly developing the design of our bags to make the smallest possible pieces of material usable, but despite this, cutting waste is still generated during production. Our goal in the future is to turn the shreds that currently end up in the trash into a raw material for recycled material. We could use this material again in our bags.

There is also room for improvement in the emissions caused by transporting the material. The bags are produced in Italy by skilled hands, but the leather and textile pieces are collected in Finland, so they are transported to Milan for production. Our goal in the future is to find usable leather waste in Italy, which would reduce emissions caused by logistics.
