Though this is a new model for us, the traditional woven birch bark versions of this everlasting backpack model have been around for centuries. These types of carriers were used by the Karelian travellers, writers and poets as they collected the stories of the Finnish folk together.

The modern version of the birch bark backpack has been crafted taking into consideration all the requirements of today for a truly purposeful backpack. Whether you are facing a city promenade or a longer day trip, a bike or train ride, the [KONTTI] delivers, no matter the situation.
The roots of our designer Outi lead to Kainuu in the north of Finland, and the tradition and design language of the area have always resonated strongly with her. Woven birch bark baskets discovered from the attic of her grandmother have played a new role as they have served as the starting point for the inspiration behind [KONTTI] on Outi’s design table.

On the side you find a handy system where you can attach either an umbrella, water bottle or even a travel size yoga mat.

Pads on the shoulder straps make the backpack comfortable to carry even with more weight
adjust to your liking
We wanted to make sure the [KONTTI] works for as many people as possible, so the straps are of course adjustable to your specific needs.

To secure your belongings, underneath the fold-over flap you can find a zipper with our iconic pinecone puller.
Journey of the material
The pathway of our excess materials begins in the trash bin, next moving onto Outi’s design table. From there the ideas and materials head into the loving hands of our artesans in Italy. Head artisan Fulvio Galbiati leads a team of nine in the Milan area in Italy. They have accepted our material challenge and with three decades of experience they transform trash into long-term treasures, making each seam truly count.
