We at Lovia look for our inspiration from the nature and are constantly looking for new ways to also incorporate this into our bags. One example of this is utilising birch bark in the details of our bags.
Our partner Rakennusapteekki supplies us with this amazing and versatile natural resource. They are specialised in responsible building with over 20 years of experience. They utilise traditional methods and develop materials and ways to aim at building in harmony with nature. One of these examples is the birch bark use, also visible in Lovia’s collection. Rakennusapteekki develops their products with care, to ensure they are of high quality and long-lasting. The same goes for our bags. When they are made from truly durable materials, they can become long-lasting partners.

Birch bark has been utilised for centuries in Finland for multiple purposes, such as in clothes in the way of leather or fabric. It has even been dubbed as the plastic of the old days to its outstanding characteristics.
The birch bark utilised in Lovia bags comes from excess of logging in Finland. It is hand picked for our bags. The birch bark is removed from the fallen birch, gathered and collected, dried and straightened out for use. This material then travels to our designer Outi’s table, where she creates new treasures from it. One could say that this is truly a tradition brought to modern form, as the birch bark baskets and bags have been in use for centuries. And we can only admire the end result, right?
