All Lovia jewellery is made by Tero Hannonen, goldsmith & founder or AU3 Goldsmiths in Helsinki. The design inspiration for our jewellery stems from the forests of Kainuu up North, and you can see the reference rather directly in the shapes of forest diamonds, such as needles and pine cones. AU3 Goldsmiths focuses on high quality, down to every last detail. We also pride ourselves in this, because it is important for us that our treasures stay loyal for a long time. This way, there is also less need to purchase new items. In Tero’s skilled hands, Lovia jewellery is born, backed with over 15 years of experience as a goldsmith.

Born in the hands of an artisan
We want to be as transparent as possible with where the materials we use come from and what they contain, because we feel you as the person who wears our jewellery have a right to know just how your treasure was created. So, let’s get down to it!
The base material used for our jewellery is led- and nickel-free bronze, sourced from Germany. The bronze is made up of 90% copper and 10% tin or 90% tombac with 10% zinc. Bronze naturally is a softer material, making it easier to work with than other precious metals. Our rose gold jewellery is covered first with 24 karat gold, and then an additional layer of 18 karat rose gold to ensure long-lasting quality. Most of our jewellery in silver is coated, with some pieces made out of pure sterling silver.
After the material sourcing Tero ensures that the creations from our designer Outi’s sketchbook turn into real life treasures. His days are filled with varying tasks, as one day can include 3D-visualisation, chemistry and handling heavier machinery. All jewellery is cut and polished by hand, next making their way toward new homes.

Where can we do better?
We do a lot of good together with Tero, but looking from the standpoint of sustainability, there is always room for improvement.
The origin of metals is a challenge throughout the jewellery field. Tracking down the chain may be trickier than expected. In the future we want to focus on finding out the exact origins for the materials, even though most of the materials are recycled. Currently the recycling grade of our jewellery is 92-98 percent.
